Somewhere in the stands were complete strangers Mike and Morgan, who had no idea that a Yankees player would throw a ball into the crowd and serve as an accidental, but iconic matchmaker. Can you tell us the story of how you two met?

Mike: We met at a Yankee game. We both happened to buy a season ticket package where you get to pay one monthly fee and you get to go to the standing room section only. You could go at any point in the game and you can kind of go willy-nilly…I actually showed up to the game fairly late. I had a long day at work, wasn't even sure I was going to make it. My buddies who were at the game were texting me like “just come whenever, we'll have a couple of beers and a good time.”

Mike arrived just in time for a Yankee's player to throw a ball into their section. As he watched, the ball seemed destined for the cute girl that he spotted in the crowd. In dramatic fashion, the ball bounced out of her hands and landed miraculously into Mike's grasp. A rush of clarity compelled him to make eye contact with Morgan and toss the ball back to her, sparking a connection that would change their lives.

Mike: It was like one of those moments where it was surreal because as it happened, everyone around us kind of gave a mini cheer, like it was just a great Yankee moment…And then a few minutes later I got the courage to kind of jump up on the railing in between our sections and start talking to her and eventually got her number. We went on our first date a couple days later.

What was your first impression right after Mike threw you the ball and approached you?

Morgan: It was the nicest thing ever! That day, I was trying to find an outfit that I could wear to a baseball game and to work, so I wore an old Yankee t-shirt with a blazer over it. And a guy I work with jokingly was like, “no one's going to talk to you if you wear that.” So that night I sent him a picture of me catching the ball and the subject line was ‘met my husband tonight’. And [the email] was totally just a joke!

You’ve been together 4 years now, what’s the key to a lasting relationship?

Morgan: We're genuinely best friends and enjoy each other's company. We both have a very kind, and gentle approach to life, and we’re understanding of each other's feelings and understanding of where each other come from. I feel we just communicate well. We really enjoy our time with each other and do our best to be on the same team. I feel like it’s not you against the other person, rather its you and the other person against whatever the issue is.

Mike: I couldn't say it better myself. I just think trying to take everything easy, you know, and not take life too seriously — enjoy it as much as possible. Like we're planning our wedding now and it's, you know, like it could be a stressful time, but I feel like it's exciting to see it all come together.

What’s are some memories that stick out to you both?

Morgan and Mike have had some incredible moments together that they'll never forget—countless Yankee games, getting serious and moving in together right smack in the middle of Covid, the heartwarming day they welcomed their sweet dog Coda into their lives, and capping it all off with an epic adventure to Moab, Utah. But there was another incredible moment that brought their relationship full circle:

Mike: We actually got in contact with the guy who threw the ball, Mike Tauchman, former Yankee. I actually messaged him on Instagram to see if he could wish Morgan a happy birthday. He responded a couple days later and he was like, “if this is true, this is the coolest story I've ever heard” and he wished happy birthday to Morgan.

Side Note: We had to ask these Yankee superfans for a pulse check on this years team… Mike is optimistic the team will turn things around.
